KCBS and the Memphis BBQ Network are teaming up this fall for two big contests in one giant location. Just to clear up misconceptions, MBN cooks and KCBS cooks WILL NOT be competing against one another. These are two separate contests that just happen to be running in the same place at the same time. A team is welcome to enter both contests if they like, but must pay entry fee for each contest. Currently set at $200 for KCBS; $300 for MBN. The only crossover categories will be shoulder and ribs. KCBS COOKS TAKE NOTE: if you plan on entering the MBN shoulder category, you must cook the entire shoulder, not just the butt or picnic portions. Shoulder and Rib turn-ins for both organizations will be at the same time. Prize money for the contests are set at $7,000 Purse for KCBS and $10,000 Purse for MBN. They are expecting around 25 teams per contest, for a total of around 50 teams, which should make for an exciting time! Interesting to note for you KCBS goers...if this is just a little too big for you, Carbondale's Main Street Pig-Out (just about 15 minutes away from Murphysboro) will be having their annual KCBS contest the very same weekend. Lot's of choices that weekend. As more information comes in, it will be posted here.  For immediate information, please visit the Contest/Events page. By the way, applications for this new dual sanctioned contest are set to be available on their website in about a month or so. For additional information, visit http://www.ILBBQS.com *************************************** ~ St. Jacob Contest Goes Garnish Free Word just in from one of the organizers/reps for the St. Jacob, Illinois "On Your Mark! Get Set! BBQ!" contest has it that they will be a garnish free event. No, that doesn't mean you get your garnish for free, but they are not allowing garnish of any type to be used for decorating turn-in boxes. This is to help level the playing field for the 'new' teams who are scheduled to cook the event. As of this writing, there are 11 teams signed up to compete, and the contest is on track to level out around 15 teams. For additional information, check out their website at www.StJacobIL.com .
