Head Chef Willie Wagner and his team of Chicago cooks (including Chuck Blum, Efrain Cuevas, Chris Chaudruc, and David Garr) participated in Memphis In May last week from May 15-17th; at Tom Lee Park on the banks of Mississippi River. The Team finished 3rd in Pork Shoulder out of 66 teams from around the globe! The melded team of Memphians and Chicago cooks entered 8 other categories and could not believe the results. A truly unexpected honor! A little note from team mate David Garr: We worked so hard competing in 9 different areas here are the results. Pork Shoulder 3 out of 66 Wings 13th out of 106 Exotic (we did TurDuken) 5th out of 66 Beans 45/ 81 Poultry (again Turducken)78/84 Looks like they wanted more chicken here! Mustard Sauce 45/57 Seafood 60/101 - we did a shrimp skewer Beef Brisket 43/94 Vinegar Sauce - 18th / 63 The best part was all the teammates pulling together - (WE HAD NO Sponsor) and working so hard to build our booth and make it a great place to cook and relax. After the first rounds of judging and they came back and said we were a finalist -!! It was just a shock we all stood around looking at each other - some people cried! It was an amazing feeling that I never thought you could get from BBQ-ing! It was such a surprise we just worked hard, had a ton of fun and just had this unexpected finish! People were going crazy! Congrats to this award winning team! Hello Jim! We're working on a new Food Network series where fans get their cooking problems/dilemmas answered by their favorite Food Network chef. If any of you have a probing question about grilling, Thanksgiving or the holidays, please read more about the show below. And of course if you want to share this info with friends and family, please do. Thanks! Lisa Casting Producer, "Dear Food Network" 646.747.4754 Learn to cook from your favorite FOOD NETWORK star! Inspired by letters from fans, Food Network is launching a new series, Dear Food Network, which will feature top chefs answering your cooking concerns, problems and challenges. We're looking for Thanksgiving, winter holiday and grilling cooking issues--specifically Thanksgiving Day disasters, turkey issues, desserts and what to do with the leftovers. If you've ever dreamed of having your favorite Food Network star help you out in the kitchen, we want to hear from you! To be considered, make a 1-2 minute video telling us why you want a chance to have your questions answered and problems solved by a Food Network chef. Tell us your story—have you been making the same pie for 10 years and your family is over it, or is it so bad that friends have stopped coming over for celebratory dinners? Or maybe you just need some new inspiring ideas on how to wow your family. On your casting tape tell us about yourself (where you live and how old you are, etc.), and your problem/question for Food Network. Be sure to include a humorous testimonial by a friend or family member! "She can't seem to remember which side to cook a turkey on, or her mashed potatoes are always so lumpy" goes a long way! Upload your video to www.foodnetwork.com/dearfn or send your DVD or VHS video submissions no later than July 14th to: Embassy Row Att: Dear Food Network 110 Leroy Street 7th Fl. New York, NY 10014 For more information please email foodnetworkseries@gmail.com. Get Set! BBQ! contest, in St. Jacob, Illinois, an American Royal Qualifier, a Qualifier for The Jack Daniels World Championship, and a premier St. Louis Metro barbeque event! Mayor Muņiz realizes that the latter will take a little time, but is aiming to have the minimum 15 team requirement covered for this first year event to be a qualifier. Though not sanctioned this year (watch the KCBS calendar in 2009), the contest will be following KCBS rules and regulations to ensure consistency with other qualifiers. As of this writing, the team count is on it's way to legal voting age and is sure to draw even more interest as word gets around that the entry fee is only $100 for all four meat categories, includes water and electricity, FREE ice, and includes all permits/license fees for those teams who would like to sell their barbeque to the public!
