The first ever KCBS Sanctioned Contest to allow the use of propane cookers went off without a visible hitch last weekend in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa at the Old Threshers campgrounds. Competition was tight as the Grand Prize package grew to a whopping $35,000 value; Reserve Grand Prize package to an $11,650 value; and 3rd Place Overall to $2,500. The well known Smokin' Triggers BBQ Team ended up edging their way to victory, but Reserve Grand Champion and 3rd Overall were solidly sealed by Randy & Marla Twyford (Ulcer Acres) and Mike & Beth Wozniak (Bar-B-Quau) respectively...all of whom are ILBBQS members! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to these fine teams who continue to help spread the gospel of good 'Que and amazing teams in Illinois! *************************************** -> Styx, Stones & Bones BBQ Contest Deemed a Success! – submitted by Ron Nunes, Contest Organizer 40 Teams Converged on Elk Grove Village for the 1st annual Styx, Stones, and Bones Kansas City BBQ Society Cook-Off. Despite uncontrollable weather conditions last year, the contest was a good one; but rounding up sponsors for this year's event (to make the purse worthwhile) has proven to be a little challenging. Tom is toying with the idea of getting backyard event together for 2007, the possibly coming back strong in 2008 with a full-blown contest. Stay tuned for details. *************************************** -> New BBQ Association & Backyard Events in Central Illinois Word came in today from Peter Wright (Pittsfield, Illinois) that the Two Rivers BBQ Association has been created to serve the Central region of the state.
